HYPE
In August 2005, after hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans area Pastor Dexter was led by God to restructure areas of the Ministry. He started with the Temple of Praise Youth, formally the Youth of Promise. Pastor Dexter had a vision to develop young people into men and women of God with a deep God consciousness. He organized a committee of young people in the ministry and tasked them with assisting him in renaming, restructuring and revitalizing the Temple of Praise Youth. Out of several intense meetings a new youth Ministry was birth, with a new vision, new mission and a new name, HYPE (Holy Youth Purposed to Excel). Since its beginning HYPE has made a tremendous impact on the lives of youth in the Temple of Praise Ministries, surrounding communities of New Orleans and abroad. God has changed hundreds of youth through HYPE.
HYPE Events
THE CONNECTION
HYPE host a weekly service called the Connection. The Connection is designed to bring teens together to learn about God and connect with Him on their level. This unique time of worship allows teens of this era to communicate with God in an environment that they can relate to, understand and feel comfortable with. During the connection the teens discuss topics and issues that are of relevant interest and concern to them. They also learn how to cope with day to day challenges teens face on a constant and consistent basis. As intense as the subject matter can be at times the HYPE team leaders make sure that the teens are equipped with the tools they need while making the process fun.
HYPE WEEK
HYPE also hosts an annual teen’s conference called “HYPE Week”. During this event hundreds of teens gather for a time of focused fellowship and fun. This event is meant to impact teen’s lives through challenging and thought provoking topics while having fun in the process. Set in an atmosphere with a Hip Hop feel the leaders of HYPE teach teens attending the conference how to connect with the past without abandoning their future. During the three days of activities, teens are encourage to enter into a new relationship with God or to strengthen the one they currently have. HYPE Week is always scheduled during the last week of July. We feel this gives teens an amazing end to their summer and helps them to anticipate an awesome new school year.
